I just finished watching An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore. It opened my eyes to some facts I've never known. It was also a wake up call to what is really happening around me. The small things we take for granted, like the slow and steady increase in temperature and humidity, the early days and nights, and abrupt change of seasons; to name a few. I have a hard time walking during the day time, because it's so hard to open your eyes without the aid of sun glasses. I used to think it was mainly caused by my handicap, but more of my peers are experiencing the same problem and complaining of similar symptoms I experience with my eyes; the main factor being the heat and glare of the sun. In my recent trip to the beach, I couldn't stand to chill out on the shore line under the shade during the morning down to the early afternoon. Even though I close my eyes with my polarized sun glasses on, I can still feel my eyes twitch in the heat. I remembered a time when I would be frolicking on the beach regardless of the time of day without any discomfort. I, for one, feel motivated to change my lifestyle to help contribute to the solution after being informed by the hard facts I recently took for granted. One of the most compelling reasons behind my motivation is my daughter. I really want her to get the chance to enjoy the beaches, landscapes and other pleasures of nature we enjoy today. |
