With all the hypocrisies in the workplace of today, it is hard to draw the line between being polite and being blunt. It comes to a point that you have to lie to yourself, turn a blind eye, or worse join the facade to conform with status quo. This is of course brought about by necessity, the need to make ends meet. Cost of living has risen, and with the right price tag, so does the quality of living. Note that a higher price doesn't necessarily denote better quality. I noticed that like me, most of the people I know who work at so called "in-jobs" such as call centers, outsourcing companies and like tend to spend more frivolously. The pay is significantly better compared to 9-5 desk jobs with lesser amount of effort so to speak. The reason behind this is, in my opinion is the absence of satisfaction... job satisfaction to be exact. Somewhere along the way, we lose sight of saving for a better future and just look forward to the short term to get a fix for stress; afterwhich the cycle starts again. Now it's more of buying what we want, and not what we actually need. They say it would be idealistic to find a job where you actually like what you do and you have enough money to pay the bills. I think it is very much possible if we can focus on what we need than what we want, and refrain from keeping up with the Joneses. There are lots of jobs out there which hold greater job satisfaction with a lesser pay. But the trend is the wage dictates the amount of satisfaction one can derive from work. Only in a perfect world can we have both... |
