At what cost shall you sacrifice functionality for esthetics? I've been searching the web for new ways to improve the look and feel of my site, and i came across some pretty nifty applets. But no matter how good they look, they tend to sacrifice other key attributes such as usability, compatibility, loading time and what not.

Many of you guys may know AJAX; well i tried using this to address an issue I had with my photo gallery; which is viewing each picture in full size (which requires opening a new window, a popup or loading a new page). So i came up with a solution which employs this technology. But again, as I said in the first paragraph, you have to sacrifice something; in my case, compatibility... ok i'll go ahead and let it out my chest MSIE is a piece of crap!; i guess they haven't heard of the term Standards.. Though a disciplined developer tries not to cut corners; so again i sacrificed a few things here and there to make it work.

Well everything looks nice and spiffy for now; the image routines are consolidated inside classes, the javascript stuff seems to be copasetic and the style sheets seem to agree. But let's not stop there folks! there's always room for improvement.
