I just got 2 500gb Western Digital Green Power drives, to replace my Seagate 320gb drive. I found a great deal on TipidPC, a shop was selling it for 1000 PHP less than other shops plus they also deliver for an additional 100 bucks; the common retail price of the drivers were around 6500 PHP give or take. The drives don't offer great performance compared to its competitors but the drives are ideal for storage and for b0xes like mine which are open 24/7; since it consumes 40% less power, the noise levels are significantly lower and the heat produced by the drives are minimal. On the power savings alone was enough to close the deal for me, the minimal heat it produces and noise levels were just icing on the cake. I use a micro ATX case so these features were definitely a plus. I rely on a Western Digital 74gb Raptor as my primary drive were I install my OS. After owning this drive for over a year I must say this is a really reliable drive and compliments my new 2x500gb GP drives. I guess sometime in 2008 I'll upgrade my Raptor drive to the new 150gb when the price becomes amenable to my budget. At the moment it's just to expensive for a 10,000rom 150gb drive. IF it hits the 150USD mark and the Pesos strengthens I might take a second look. |
